The Captain's Log
The Shipwrecks and Sea Dogs Podcast Newsletter
Looking Back…
First I want to thank everyone who listened to all five bonus episodes during Listener Appreciation Week! Shipwrecks and Sea Dogs saw a record number of downloads for a single day, and was featured in the Top 50 History Podcast of the Week on Goodpods.com, coming in at #34. I am so thankful to all of you.
This past week I released King Henry VIII’s Lost Warship: The Mary Rose, featuring author and historian Richard M. Jones. Richard is a veritable encyclopedia of shipwrecks, and it was a pleasure speaking with him again. You can listen to that episode in your favorite podcast player, or at shipwrecksandseadogs.com/79. (Also available on YouTube.)
What’s Up Next?
Officer’s Club members on Patreon and subscribers to Into History will get a new bonus episode on Tuesday, July 1. Flotsam & Jetsam: Alexander McKee. This episode will tell of the life and career of the man who was largely responsible for finding the Mary Rose. Not a premium subscriber? Click the links above to join!
Back on the regular feed, Inferno on the Morro Castle will be released on Tuesday, July 8th. The Morro Castle was a luxury passenger line of the Ward Line, launched in 1930. It was destroyed by a ferocious fire during its last voyage, and the flaming hulk beached itself at Asbury Park, New Jersey on September 8th, 1934, under suspicious circumstances.
On The Horizon
I am currently working on a bonus episode (for everyone) about common English phrases that have maritime origins. Phrases such as “three sheets to wind” and slush fund” originally came from sailors!
I will also be interviewing two researchers from the University of Rhode Island who recently led an expedition on the Great Lakes.
In early August I will be visiting the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut, and interviewing a team member about the history of the museum, the artifacts in the collection, and the historic ships on site.
Merch!
I am extending the 25% OFF discount on all merchandise through the end of July! T-shirts start at just $15! Go to shop.shipwrecksandseadogs.com and use code LISTENER2025 at checkout.

Until next time, don’t forget…to wear…your…lifejackets!
